Board of Regents to Meet in Special Session to Discuss Residency Policy Nov. 27

A special public session of the University System of Maryland (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) Board of Regents will be held on Monday, November 27 at 10 a.m. to consider proposed revisions to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ residency policy. The meeting, which will be conducted via teleconference, will originate from the Chancellor's Conference Room in the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Office, 3300 Metzerott Road in Adelphi, MD.

On November 20, the Board of Regents Finance Committee voted to recommend for full Board approval a set of revisions to the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Policy for Student Residency Classification for Admission, Tuition, and Charge-Differential Purposes. The Maryland Court of Appeals recently declared a part of the current policy to be in violation of the Maryland Declaration of Rights. The draft addresses that part of the policy concerned with a Â鶹ÊÓƵ student's residency status (and thus whether he or she will receive an in-state tuition rate), based on nine criteria.

The Board intends to consider this matter expeditiously because this is the time of year that the Â鶹ÊÓƵ institutions are determining residency status for students applying for the Spring and Fall 2001 semesters.

Full agenda and background information will be available at the meeting. Sign language interpreters and/or other appropriate accommodations for eligible individuals with disabilities will be provided upon request. Please call 301/445-2756 (voice) or 301/314-7683 (TTY/ITT) to make special arrangements.
